The Bottom Line:
Purchase this TV, but as always do some comparison shopping and it will actually amplify the good qualities of this TV.
I searched for a large screen TV for a least a month. I shopped at least four different stores. To emphasize the pros, I ended up purchasing the Hitachi 43FDX01B at a store I really do like to solicit from. The pros outweighed the cons quite substantially as far as me making my final choice.
I think the location of the inputs (with a third video option being located on the front) allows easy access to your equipment. The fact that you can view a high quality (actually High Definition) picture from about a good 120 to 150 degree radius. The ability to receive High Definition signals (even though transmissions are few currently) is a major plus to me. In the near future High Definition television broadcasts will be the norm, so why not be prepared for it. Other advantages of this TV include: optional stand for raising it for better viewing, P-I-P to help with channel scanning, and the lighted remote for use in the dark.
The cons of this specific brand basically centered around the remote control. Even though I liked the lighted feature, the size of it is quite large or cumbersome. In addition there are numerous buttons which appear to have no function. And the manual doesn't discuss these buttons either. If you place this TV in your basement or a room without windows you will resolve another problem. That problem is, light coming in to your room from the outside. This light sometimes makes it difficult to see images, however I alleviated this problem by placing some good blinds on my window which totally eliminated lights and shadows.
To get ready for the future, and to entertain your guests (actually overwhelm some) I would highly recommend purchasing this TV.
