Great Picture
Pros
Perfect size for small room
Cons
Not this set but issues of HDTV itself per the regulators are a potential problem.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Great TV. Just hope the powers that be do not handicap the older not DVI HDTVs so they can not use HDTV material.
I picked this one out of a couple TVs. The other was the Mit 47908. The Mit was just a bit larger than I needed in my room being 8 inches deeper. The Hitachi is a perfect size for my room. Less than 21 inches deep, 43 inches wide and perfect height with its stand. I got the stand in the deal as a Sears price match off the internet.
Great picture out of the box. The virtual HDTV for regular broadcast WORKS. When I compare regular TV with HDTV you can tell the difference but it is not as great as one may think with this TV. The HDTV picture looks like film compared with regular TV. The wide screen makes watching a pleasure.
stretch
For regular TV viewing of 4:3 material I use its smooth wide function which stretches the left and right portions of the screen leaving the center alone. I do not mine the small distortion of the picture resulting from the stretch wide mode.
Small problems have occurred. I have the set turn off every once in a while. This has not been a real problem with me.
It is just such a please to watch DVDs on this set. Getting back to the virtual HDTV, DVDs look real sharp. This set has a very high angle of viewing on the right and left. This was surprising.
