After over 2 years, I still love this tv

Pros Great picture and value. No issues in the 26 months I've owned it.
Cons Too much glare on the protective screen.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  I recommend this TV today for budget minded consumer. It has a great picture, has been reliable for me for 26 months, and is a pleasure to view.
I bought this TV 26 months ago, so I think I'm qualified to give it a long-term assessment.

First of all, the picture. I immediately turned down the flame mode that the TV was set to by the factory. Colours (I'm Canadian so there's a "u" in colour) are vivid, blacks are black. There is a definite red push - which means that reds stand out more than they should when I watch HD. However, it really doesn't bother me. Kind of makes me go "wow" look at those reds.

I bought the TV to watch high definition. There's nothing like watching HDTV - it is spectacular. Regular cable is pretty good. I have a good digital signal coming in and the picture looks great. One problem is that I have to change the aspect ratio to accommodate the 4:3 picture on a 16:9 monitor. Of course, DVDs are great too.

I have never used the TVs speakers, preferring to listen to my 5.1 system.

Using a Harmony universal remote makes using the TV much easier. One button to turn on the TV, amp, and HD PVR. I recommend this remote - your wife and family will love it.

No burn in issues - and I don't expect any. I watch most of my TV in full screen mode - without black lines. Only with some DVDs will I leave the black lines in place so I don't change the aspect ratio that the director intended. I don't play video games on this tv.

It is a large TV, compared to LCD projection or plasma. It's just the nature of a CRT projection tv.

I do find that the glare screen is a problem. Any ambient light source will reflect off it. A real issue for me. Consequently, we watch the tv in a pretty dark rooms with the drapes closed. Watching it from a reasonably direct angle is best. Not really a problem for us - the TV looks good at all but the most extreme angles. A consideration though.

26 months ago, it was the best TV I could afford. Today, I recommend it for as a budget priced option. I'd probably go with a LCD projection for the smaller size - I'd like to have all the components under the set.

When I bought the TV, I got a 48 month extended warranty. Someone asked me if this was a good deal - I said I'd let them know in about 4 years. So far, it's been a waste of money. Ha.
