The Bottom Line:
I would recommend this TV; however, be aware that since it is new technology, there may be some headaches.
I purchased the TV in September 2004 at Circuit City because it had the best picture of all the TVs on display. I did some shopping around at Best Buy and Tweeter, but nothing else compared to the picture and price of the 50V500. It also helped that the menu was easy to get to and understand.
Unfortunately, the TV hasn't been as reliable as hoped, but I'm not giving up just yet. Here's my story thus far: Two weeks after delivery, the lamp went. A few days later a replacement TV was delivered. On December 21, 2004, we started to see a blotchy picture with a red haze. Since I had purchased a 4 year protection plan (strongly recommended for anyone contemplating purchasing a TV of this type or anything based on new technology), I called the service center and was told a technician would be out on Christmas Eve. Well, the tech never showed and when I called on December 27 to find out why, I was told that the company that was supposed to do the repair was never notified. An appointment was then set up for December 29. After the technician arrived and reset the factory settings (3 times), the picture did not improve. He had a few conversations with his home office and then decided that the light engine needs to be replaced. I pressed him to find out how long it would take but he was noncommittal. After reading the review of another on this site (still no TV after 6 weeks), I have a very sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach.
