What a picture.... What a price... What a difference

Pros Sharpness, Functionality, Ease of configuration of current and future components. On screen configurations.
Cons NONE YET...........
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  I would choose the Hitachi again if I had to. I might down the road look into a DLP tv but will wait till the technology develops a bit more.
I reviewed the Sony 50" LCD and compared it to the Hitachi 50V500 and truthfully, there is no touching the Hitachi. All parts in the Hitachi are made by Hitachi.. and the same cannot be said for the Sorry...I mean Sony..

I also took a look into the Samsung DLP 50" and decided against the DLP due to the lack of sharpness in the picture and lack of screen options and settings. I compared all three tv's at my local Future Shop, and plugged the exact same DVD feed to all units. The difference and comparison was well worth the extra time.

In judging the tv's price was not that different between any of the units as they were all around the $5000 (Canadian) price range. The settings on the units were all changed to equally match the other, so the test could be as fair as possible. I have to say that the Samsung DLP had the best richness of colour in the bunch.

The Sony did not compare to either of these units. I preffered and eventually purchased the Hitachi due to the sharpness and detailed picture quality. Hitachi has long been the leader in the projection market and will soon also be the leader in LCD in the near future. I cannot bash the DLP by Samsung, as the picture is quite pleasing and colour is second to none.

I do however see an issue with the 1st generation DLP screens and will wait a few years till Hitachi can make a superior product. Notice how Samsung will not enter into the LCD projection market..??? I have also read reviews about Samsung testing their DLP product against LCD projection televisions and comparing colour, resolution, lamp time etc. The information on this test is posted on the Samsung website. I can see that they tested the DLP against Panasonic, Sony, Sharp and Epson... but not against Hitachi.....!! Why is that...?? Is Hitachi superior..??

Overall.. when I have friends and family over.. and they see the Hitachi setup and the DVD on.... they are totally convienced and can see why ultimately the Hitachi was the better choice....

Another thing that should be purchased along with this tv is some component video cables either Monster Cable etc something of high end quality so that the picture quality will be the best possible.

Hope this helps...

PS. I purchased this at Sears for $4750 (Canadian Dollars), and they gave me the Hitachi matching stand at no cost... and since I am an employee... a discount of 15% then taxes on top of that... so.. it was a steal...

Here is the link of the independant study performed by Texas Instruments (the maker of the DLP technology) in regards to the testing of DLP vs LCD..
