Just bought 50VS810
Pros
looks, SD picture, 2 HDMI inputs
Cons
not a plasma
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
The TV has a great SD Picture and looks like a plasma from the front.
When I started looking for a big TV, I realized that the majority of my viewing for the next few years would be DVDs and SD TV. I ruled out a plasma (my first choice-Panasonic was the best)because my kids wanted a TV that they could play video games on.
The Hitachi was better by a wide margin on SD TV than any other set that I found. It was also, in my opinion, the best looking rear projection TV out there(it looks like a plasma from the front.)
We use our TV in a home theatre setting so the room is not real bright. Some of the sets in the stores were brighter than the Hitachi (too bright I think) but 50VS810 is more than bright enough. I had to turn down the color and black enhancement and then turn up the brightness to get the picture that I wanted but it is really a nice picture. It compares very favorably with my smaller CRT set.
The above comments are for SD TV and DVD. It also looks great on video games. I have not decided what to do about HDTV yet. Again, the picture on SD TV is far better than I expected.
I am very happy with my purchase and would do it again.
