The Bottom Line:
Go look at a 51s500 today and see for yourself. Mine looks great!
Great picture right out of the box! Need I say more? Sure why not. I picked this rptv up at Sears shortly before xmas with free delivery, 3yr extended warranty ($370 from Sears ouch), tax, everything out the door for $2036 - you just gotta love Sears price match deals!
I fed the new monster the dvd Star Wars Episode I and was very surprised by how crisp and clean the picture was. It's amazing how much of an improvement proper lighting can have on a set's performance (before watching Star Wars I had only seen the 51s500 in the bright showroom floor at various vendors and in the stores I could never really capture the full level of detail/depth to the picture because it was so damn bright!). Before I got too far into Star Wars I cranked the contrast down to a sensible setting (taking the set off the torch mode it was set in for contrast - what the hell are manufactures thinking anyone? Contrast at 100% wtf are they thinking?!?), turned brightness down, drop the color a few clicks, turned off the filters/enhancements, and set the rptv to standard color setting. After making those changes I noticed the Red push so I went to the color decoder and turned down the red and then everything looked good!
Bottom line - Best performance for the money from the various models I compared the 51s500 to. The 51s500 won hands down.
