The best analog Rear Projection TV
Pros
Great Picture
Cons
remote can be better
Recommended it?
Yes
After months of research for the best analog rear projection TV on the market, I decided on the Hitachi 53SBX01B. I've look for articles and opinions of salesman and previous owners of large screen TV, and the result was the Hitachi 53SBX01B.
I purchase the TV 3 month ago and have no regrets. It is exceptionally clear with little to no scan line typical of large screen TV's. The screen is bright regardless of light level in the room. The onscreen menu is easy to use once the default setting of the background is change to opaque. The remote is large and easy to use with the frequently used buttons on the center. The bad point of the remote, it lacks learning capabilities and it can't control my Sherwood RVD8090R AC-3/DTS receiver. Which really doesn't matter anyway, I rather use the smaller remote from Dish Network w/ uhf/infrared.
With the TV connected to two digital video signals from Dish Network (Coax/S-Video/TOSlink) and DVD(Component/TOSlink), the picture is clean with no artifacts and distortions. The picture remains viewable at various angles unlike other RPTV's.
I've consider the Panasonic and Sony until I saw them side by side and realized that the extra money did not buy me a better picture instead the Hitachi was hands down the better of the three. I guess people are sold on the name Sony and Panasonic and figure it is synonamous w/ quality. I think it is over rated (read somewhere that the Sony XBR has an annoying problem with a green streak on the right side of the screen.) Besides, the Hitachi has 1000 lines of resolution and other two has 800 lines of resolution. Hitachi also has full screen auto convergence the others didn't.
Not that it matters, because I brought the TV as a Monitor, 53SBX01B comes with Dolby Prologic and 60 watts per channel and the built in speaker can be use as a center channel. There is also provision for wireless surround speakers and Subwoofer out.
If you are looking to invest in an analog RPTV this is the one. Digital and HDTV are nice, but the prices are ridiculous. The money is better spend on better surround sound system.
