Now it's 57S500 and better! This IS the one!

Pros Beautiful, Clear, Wide-view
Cons Heavy, some glare potential
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  I moved from 52" 4:3 to 57" 16:9 - this IS top of the line!
Read "Staysee's" and "Theverm's" reviews - They pretty well cover it. I read and value the Epinions and feel I should contribute.

I did research on features, performance, and price. The 57SWX20b was the winner. My son-in-law works for a Circuit City in another state and confirmed my choice saying, "If I were buying, that's the one I'd pick."

I love this set. I bought it from my local Circuit City. They delivered it, hooked up my DirecTV Sony receiver, and moved my old 52" RCA to my garage.

The first night (Sunday) I played "Two Weeks Notice" at 16:9 and was not a happy camper. There were still black top & bottom bars, and the image appeared squashed a bit. I called Hitachi when they opened Monday morning. The tech who answered was very helpful and professional when she told me I had to re-set my Onkyo DVD's output from 4:3 to 16:9. DUH! I felt a bit stupid. When I set it correctly, the image filled the 16:9 screen and is so clear and sharp, I can't imagine what a progressive scan DVD would do better!

Everything else has already been said - I write this to say that I agree and confirm the other 2 reviews.

UPDATE: After a month I noticed "blurring" on local channels (DirectTv) DirectTv thought a failing LNB. $70 for the service call to change the LNB on my old dish, OR $65 for a new triple LNB dish and new multi-satellite receiver. I went for the new dish/receiver. I noticed the blurring on more than local channels, and the Phillips receiver menuing system sucks, so I bought a Hughes/TiVo ($200) and a TERK BMS-34 multiswitch. (TiVo is the best thing since the VCR.)

Still blurry on some channels at some times. Circuit City is very customer oriented and swapped out the 57SWX20b for the just released 57S500. It has a better 4:3 stretch, guns, and a PCMCIA slot for displaying your own digital photos! But as far as the blurrs - no change.

I have run new coax straight from the dish to the receiver - no connections, splitters, diplexers - clean run. I've had 2 different satellite dish technicians, and a Hitachi factory rep look at my system. Bottom line is that an analog source through a digital TV, and blown up to 57 inches is going to sometimes be blurry. It's just like what happens when you push your PC's media player to half or full screen - there's not enough signal for a sharp picture.
