One of the best sound and most beautiful sub I've owned.
Pros
Beautiful finish, great form factor .. great impact while being super fast.
Cons
None really in my use. Might want a 'deeper' sub in a big theater room.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
If you have doubts find somewhere that has a return policy. Try one out .... you're going to love it.
I picked up one of these things to fool around with mainly out of curiosity. I'd seen a badly battered one sitting out in the local outlet for a national etailer and even in that condition it had intrigued me ... doesn't even look like a sub really.
During one of their recent bi yearly sales a friend that works here mentioned that they really weren't sure what to do with the last couple they had there. Since these were kind of marketed as a package with the cascade speakers and in general the speakers themselves got lukewarm reviews at best. Most reviewers also liked the cascade sub but I think it suffered guilt by association.
The one that had been banged up on the floor was in the gloss black finish and even pretty rough it was still striking. We pulled on of the ones in Cherry out of the box (they come wrapped in a cloth sleeve) and it was just stunning. AND HEAVY. Nearly 100 lbs out of the box, it's a beast. The wood finish is lush and the overall fit and finish reminds me of some of the really high end pieces of electronics I have.
You look at the specs and some jump out and some don't. The 800 watt amp is no joke. I bought a second one that was slightly damaged and had to take it apart to reconnect the front. The transformer, which is huge, is on one side of the cabinet and the plate with the caps and all the other connectors etc are on the other. 4 6x6 drivers (yes they're square) that face downward and have MASSIVE magnet structures.
The sound is just great. It's got the RABOS equalization system which I haven't even used yet so it's still not optimized. The spec that doesn't knock you out is that it's only only rated down to 30ish at plus or minus 3db but it's just so fast and so tight with music and I honestly feel like I'm listening to a much deeper digging sub when watching movies with a lot of lfe going on. You just have to love the sound of a sealed sub that makes up for a little inefficiency with 800 watts of brute force.
The wow factor is pretty cool too. By that I mean every person that looks at it sitting in my system says wow .... av enthusiast or not. It's unfortunate the pictures online don't really do the finishes justice because both the cherry and black that I have now are just gorgeous.
Grab them while they're cheap and word isn't out about them. I could see the value of these climbing once some more are out there and word of mouth gets around.
