The Bottom Line:
If you have a laptop you?d be wasting your time buying this player. However, if you need a small, portable device just for entertainment, this is the gadget.
Initially (no pun intended), I bought this portable DVD for when I'm traveling. With the cut backs on airlines, I thought at least this way I would have something to watch if they decide to get rid of in-flight movies.
However, with the quick charging of the battery and reasonable usage of same, I often have it in the kitchen while I'm cooking dinner. We've used it in the car, but bright sunlight can reduce the quality of the picture. Of course, my kids didn't mind that a bit as they huddle over the small screen. To them it's just like a Gameboy Advance, but to my older eyes, I don't like to share the viewing screen.
It was sometimes hard to hear as we zipped along the freeway with the windows down and the wind carrying off the sound to unknown parts. However, there is only a single earphone jack.
Since the cost is almost double that of a home DVD, I worried at first that I was wasting my money. I don't feel that way at all, now. I do wish there had been a carrying case to protect the machine since it is portable.
Still got friends who refuse to enter the 21st century? No problem, bring along this player when you visit. You can connect it to a TV for everyone to enjoy. No need to sit through another grainy VHS movie again! And you'll get lots of invitations to return -- provided you bring your DVD player, of course.
[Note: audio/video cables can not be used if you are using the battery pack. Also, the DVD player still plays even if connected to a TV.]
