Insignia NS-22 Speakers ~ Basic, Inexpensive Speakers
Pros
Inexpensive, easy to hook up, decent sound quality
Cons
No bass or treble adjustments.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
A very basic, inexpensive speaker system with decent sound quality. No treble or bass adjustments.
I recently moved from the Pacific Coast to the East Coast. I did ship my PC, but didn't ship the speakers because they were large. I figured I'd just get something new when I set up my computer in my new apartment.
Now my place is smaller than my old, and my computer desk doesn't have much room. I just wanted smaller, inexpensive, basic speakers to use with my PC. I do listen to some music, but mostly I just wanted to have sound with my computer.
I shopped at Best Buy, and picked almost the cheapest option, the Insignia NS-22 Speakers.
~ Product Description
This is a two-piece speaker system for use with PC's, iPod/MP3's, CD's, and DVD's.
Power Output: 1.5 watts total RMS .75 watts/ch X 2 @ 4 ohm-10%THD. 4 watts total system peak power.
Speakers: 1.5" x 3" high efficiency 4 ohm drivers
Power: 7.5 volt AC/DC adapter included; UL/CUL approved
Cable: 4' cord to source and satellites, complete cable assembly included, chrome 3.5 mm plugs.
I paid $23 for this speaker system at Best Buy.
The speakers are all black, with a tall and narrow design. The right speaker has a master volume control knob, which you simply turn for greater volume, and a power button that toggles from OFF to ON. There is headphone jack on the front of this speaker as well. The speakers will automatically mute when you connect the headphones.
These were SUPER simple to hook up, and I'm kinda of technically challenged. It is suggested that the speakers be placed as far apart as possible in the listening area. Unfortunately I don't have much space, so I have the speakers situated rather close together and mostly behind my monitor. Not the optimum, but that's all I have to work with, and they sound good enough for me.
~ My Experience
As I mentioned, I'm not using these speakers to listen to high quality audio, but mostly just to allow sound from my computer. In that respect - hey! - I have no complaints. From a very low volume, to as high a volume as I could ever want, the sound is clear and undistorted, with no hissing or rattling.
The right speaker has a pleasant blue light that lights up when the speakers are on. It does not flash with the sound, but remains steady.
If I'm listening to music through my computer, I have good enough sound for me. If you are an audiophile, or need or want very high quality sound, then perhaps these aren't for you. There is no treble/bass adjustment. You get what you get with these. The sound is ON or OFF, volume all degrees from High to Low, and that's it. But I wanted a simple, inexpensive speaker system, and that's just what I got with this Insignia NS-22 Speaker System. I'm happy with my purchase.
~ Final Thoughts
The Insignia NS-22 Speakers are very basic speakers with no treble or bass adjustments, just On or Off, and volume control. Still, the sound quality is decent and undistorted from low to high volume, and it suits my basic sound requirements for my computer.
