Great TV
Pros
Lots of options, great picture.
Cons
None.
Recommended it?
Yes
I wanted a 27" TV (upgrading from a 19" TV) and fell in love with this model at the store. It has side speakers, "virtual surround" sound option, cinema video option (film like layer which tints the picture for a cinema experience), and it doesn't look "boxy" like other 27" TV's I've seen. Plus, it has component inputs for the DVD player I'm about to buy. I've had this unit for a week and I absolutely love it! It goes for about $400 but I got it on sale for $359. If you want PIP (Picture in Picture), then upgrade to the JVC - AV27D501 model.

Oh yes, I almost forgot. While this TV is definitely not HDTV quality, it does support up to 700 lines per inch of resolution. While DVD players only put out about 500 lines per inch, this TV should do well when the (next) latest and greatest media appears that puts out higher resolution (most other 27" TV's I looked at only put out about 500 - 550 lines per inch max).
A little more about the connections: It has 2 sets of composite inputs, S video connection, and component connection. (The 27D501 model comes with two S-video inputs)
This TV also has V-chip technology which enables TV parental control, sleep timer anywhere from 15 minutes to 180 minutes (15 minute blocks), and a timer function which will turn the TV on/off as desired.
The remote is light, and easy to use. It is a universal remote so you can program it to work with your VCR and has everything you'd need to operate it. The only con is that it doesn't have backlit buttons (the 27D501 does though).
Here is my suggestion if you are looking to purchase a JVC AV D-Series television and comparing it to other brands: when you are in the store check out the resolution and clarity on the four corners and outer edges of the television screen (this works really well when you are watching ESPN and the "ticker" is scrolling with scores, etc.). The JVC D-Series had the best and brightest resolution by far. This wasn't the overriding factor but it sure did make my decision easier!!
The only con is that now that I have this TV I *must* have a DVD player and a nice stereo system to compliment it(!), which means I'll be shelling out mucho $$$$ (I was satisfied with a 19" TV and mono VCR before!)
