The Bottom Line:
No reasons not to run out and order this gem. I do not see a better TV for the price nowhere!
If you can get this TV at Brandsmart as I did, than rush and get one fast because I got a great deal. With standard cable hookups the picture quality can only depend on how good the cable signal is, so you can never truely judge this section IMO. You should go by DVD component hookup if you want to judge the true quality of the TV because it's not going to get any better depending upon the DVD's quality. I am using a Toshiba SD-2700 with colorstream (TM) component video output as a reference. The quality is amazing and only HDTV can beat it. My older 27 inch Sony cannot hold a candle to the detail and that picture was pretty good in itself.
People that have said the sound sucks are judging the TV unfairly IMO. Not many TV's are meant for good sound. Nowadays almost everyone is using external speakers anyhow. The TV is for monitoring your video and that should be it. Of course if I don't have my Home Theater on I use the TV sound and it's fine. I can understand people nice and clear. I don't ask much from a tiny speaker nor should anyone....AM I wrong?
If you must have PIP and 1 extra component input go for the 802 but you'll be paying for it and the picture quality is not going to improve.
This TV is exceptional at not showing ANY scan lines compared to the Sony WEGA. I'd say that the JVC has a much more realistic picture and the Sony has a more artificial computer generated look to it. I'd say the Sony might appear sharper but with scan lines showing up it doesn't make me want to get it. Until now I thought Sony was the only way to go in TV's but since JVC has found a way to eliminate the scan lines.....that's what sold me.
So do yourself a favor and pick up this gem of a TV at Brandsmart, if you have one around.
I have not judged any other input source so I cannot tell you about it.
I've only seen the best(component) and cable. I'm sure PS2 or Xbox will truely shine on this TV even with the S-Video connection.
