Yes
The Bottom Line:
An excellent choice.
My goal in selecting a TV, VCR and DVD was to save space
while getting a high quality picture and audio. I decided to use a DVD/VCR combo and 27" flat TV (mainly because the latter doesn't show reflections as much as regular screens and the units seem to have somewhat better sound than the
regular TVs). I narrowed it down to JVC and Toshiba on the
basis of reviews, my personal observations in stores, and the availability of a "combo" unit (Sony lacks one or it would have been in the running). JVC and Toshiba both have excellent pictures and acceptable sound, although the sound could really use some improvement. The standard line from salesmen is to hook it up to your audio gear to get good sound. Unfortunately, that doesn't help my space problem.
I ended up with the JVC because its "combo" remote works better with the TV. For some reason, the Toshiba "combo" remote doesn't work as well, even with a Toshiba TV. However the JVC "combo" remote still has some frustrations -- for example you cannot mute the TV from the JVC "combo" remote.
I actually have the 713 model -- the "3" apparently means
it is a 2003 model and the "1" means it is black rather than the fake silver that seems to be popular today but I think looks cheap. Also, I got the TV at a grand opening that was offering 10% off of the normal "best" price (they made up for it by selling me lots of other stuff).
My only other frustration is that the 3' audio cables sometimes come loose when I swivel the TV because they aren't quite long enough to comfortably reach a VCR/DVD unit perched on a shelf right above the TV in my entertainment center. Get 6' cables and you should be OK.
