JVC's Flat Tubed TV is better than SONY's and PANASONIC's!

Pros Very clear picture, beautiful style/casing. Better than Sony's and Panasonic's flat models.
Cons Like all flat-tubed TVs, it is heavy. Menu's font color is very bright.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  I can't stress enough how good of a TV this is. I think this is the best non-HDTV out there today. Check it out!
When I needed a new TV for my living room, I definitely wanted one of the flat screen models to replace my old and tired GE TV. I own a Sony 24in. Wega, and it's performance has been superb, so I wanted something that can compete with it, if not provide better results.

The Purchase

I came across two models, both 27 inches, both flat tubed. A Panasonic and this JVC, for $100 less I could have purchased the Panasonic, which did not have Picture in Picture. But since I was there to buy the best I could afford, I opted for the slightly better featured JVC TV, $100 wouldn't hurt me much, and I felt that the JVC looked better (the casing).

I had to get the TV delivered because it was way to big to squeeze into my car, and not to mention extremely heavy. After a couple days of anxious waiting for my new TV, it finally arrived, and I set it up as fast as I could work, set-up was very easy, and once connected to cable and a/c, it automatically programs the channels to your cable.

Picture Quality and Clarity

Superb! The clarity will blow any average TV out of the water, and it actually showed a better picture than my [gasp] Sony Wega! I was impressed, a non HDTV that provided a picture better than my Sony's? Cartoons's colors are smooth and crisp, with the sharpest image available to my eyes. Playstation (one) games actually show it's graphic flaws, because of the excellent detai this picture tube shows. Watching DVD Movies are also very enjoyable with this television, I can not emphasize enough how great the picture on this TV is compared to other 27 inch Televisions.

Features and Accessories

It's the little things that this TV has that makes me smile, for instance, on it's very functional remote you can light up the Channel and Volume control buttons by pressing "light", but in the case of extreme darkness, you still will be able to find the "light" button, that is because the "light" button glows in the dark. Little things is not the only thing this TV features, it features many bigger things too, such as PIP, which works very well, you can adjust the placement as well as the input of the PIP (you can watch a DVD while watching the News, or visa versa by pressing "swap"). Another cool feature is the "freeze" feature (only freezes PIP screen), this is very handy while jotting down an address, phone number, or many other on screen notes you may need to see for more time than the cable network provides.

The on screen menus and adjustments on the TV are easy to mess with thanks to menus that are very user-friendly and easy to navigate. The fonts of the menu are very easy to read and are eye- pleasing. However, I think that the Sony TV's menus, adjustment and on screen display is better and neater. However, JVC did a very good job on the menus and such.

Final Notes

This TV does a great job, I don't use it as often as I use my bedroom-Sony (the JVC is in the Living Room), but when I do, it does a wonderful job, the casing looks very solid and classy, it will compliment anyone's home and decor. If you are looking for a decent size TV, for under a grand, I beg you to put this JVC on the list, you will be happy you did. If this TV is not for you (I don't see why it wouldn't), you should also look at Sony's and Panasonic's flat tubed line-up. But JVC beats Sony's Wega and Panasonics TruFlats in my epinion.

Thanks for reading.
