Subjectively the best 27" set out there
Pros
Nice picture, good sound, loaded with features
Cons
All flat pic tube TV's heavy (100+ lbs.), premium price for a 27" set
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
If you want to live it up a little and can afford the extra bucks, take the plunge. You'll love the set.
I do lots of research before purchasing any big ticket item. JVC has a reputation for quality audio and video products, and this set is no exception.
Picture
This set has a flat picture tube, which truly does enhance the viewing experience by reducing glare. The picture appears sharper and the colors deeper. This is also party due the to 3D Y/C comb filter, the absolute best comb filter technology available today. Plus, the set has some nice features to adjust the picture such as 'theater', 'standard', 'choice', which all have particular characteristics and depending on what one is watching, may come in handy. The set also has 2 tuner PIP.
I don't think you could find a better picture on any 27" television. I compared Sony, Panasonic, Philips, Toshiba, and found this JVC tops.
Sound
The sound from any 27" TV will never rival that of a home theater set up, but this set has speakers up the sides, which provide a full and rich sound. Plus other sound features built in are the BBE sound and HyperSurround, which can tailor and enhance the sound to suit ones tastes. Nice job JVC did on maximizing the sound potential on this set.
Again, you would be hard pressed to find any other 27" set with better sound.
Inputs/Outputs
Plenty and of all types; composite, component, S=Video, etc. Plus there are inputs on the front of the set for games, video camera's, etc for easy set up. There is also a headphone jack, which may be of interest to some.
JVC went the whole nine yards in this area.
Remote
Good universal remote. I can easily control all TV functions, my cable box, VCR, DVD with this remote. Only some keys are lit though. Not a big deal, but why did they cheap out on that I ask?
This is a 27 inch set, but is almost 30 inches wide because of the side speakers, and it weighs over 100 pounds. Also, the set is very deep. Beware of your TV furniture or stand you currently use. You may have to buy a new stand to hold this TV, which could set you back $$. The box is HUGE; you probably will have this delivered by truck, unless you have a big SUV/pickup truck and 2 strong people to lift it. No way this is fitting in any passenger car.
This set is the top of the heap, there's no where left to go with traditional analog sets if you buy this. The next step up would be High Definition TV or Digital TV, at about 2-3 times the price. You can get a good 27" curved tube TV for probably around $400 these days. Your are really splurging if you buy this set (about $700), but you won't be disappointed with the features and quality.
