When our old VCR wore out (actually only the heads wore out--they got irretrievably dirty, which is how all our VCR's have ended) we got this two-fer to double our recording capabilities and to copy old videotapes to the new medium. I have had a lot of trouble with the DVD recording side, either because the unit is sketchy or because the blank discs I use have too many duds.
