The Bottom Line:
This is simply the best bang for your buck when you consider quality and screen size. BUY THIS TV!!!
This TV is a bargain, on sale as low as $2000. Just as good (if not a better) a picture as the Sony SXRD sets, and at least $400 cheaper.
These sets (all FH/FN 2006 JVC series) employ 3-chip HD-ILA (lcos) with over 2 million true pixels per chip to achieve an actual 1920x1080 resolution. The result is a flawless picture with deep blacks, dynamic colors, fluid motion, and instant response. The technology allows viewing from any angle, and has a picture that rivals the best professionally calibrated CRT straight out of the box. I'm using the set with a Motorola Digital Box for HDTV (connected via component, saving the HDMI for the PS3) and an upconverting Sony 5-disc DVD changer. Although 720p looks fine on this set, 1080i looks amazing as the upconverting to 1080p does not require rescaling, only removing of the interlace signal.
The only gripe I have is with the slow response to changing inputs. However, the Harmony remotes from Logitech can be programmed to automatically switch to the input w/o cycling. Also, the warmup and shutdown time may be a frustration to some, but that's true of most any of the new microdisplay projection technologies. This is also a very quiet TV; you hardly hear the fan or switching even in a silent room.
This is a phenomenal TV for gaming. I've got a GameCube hooked up via component, as well as a PS2, and both the picture and the response time are great.
If you considering this compared to an LCD or Plasma, I can't recommend for or against this set because your space considerations may ultimately guide that decision. But if you're looking at LCD or DLP projection, this is the set to buy. No screen door effect, no rainbow effect, no screen burn in...BUY THIS TV!!!
