A D-VHS REcorder with no timer recording option for HD input

Pros Overall Ok. There is not much choice out there.
Cons Price, No timer recording for HD(firewire) INput!
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  If you want to desperately record HD Programs, get this. You might want to get a vcr programmer on the side to do timer recordings.
I bought this about couple weeks ago. I wanted a HD Recording unit with full surround and HD quality and found this one. There are only two units available now. One for JVC (30K, 40K models) and from mitsubishi. However I heard that the mitsubhi has some kind of problems in recording copy protected programs as it is not completely compliant with the copy protection.
This recorder records overall ok. I record it from my Motorola DCT-6200 cable box. However there is some problems (hiccups) during recording. Doesn't happen often. Nevertheless it happens. So if you want to get a clean recording of a full surround , full HD quality movie, the chances are that you might have those hiccups few times in the recording. Other than that, the quality is good.
The biggest flaw is that even though it states that it is recorder for recording HDTV programs "HDTV Recorder", for some bizarre reason ( I'm very positive that they forgot this one in the line) the Timer recording doesn't allow to setup the recording input as the Firewire (IEEE 1394). On the box it is called "I-1" OR "I-2". So if you want to record HD programs , you're stuck with only manual recording. You can't set a timer!!! What a bummer!
It also claims that it can identify and record in D-Theater format which allows you to set a library on the tape. But it doesn't seem to work with my JVC D-VHS tapes (Still bizarre, as I would expect it to work with their own tapes). I even searched for some D-Theater format tapes, but couldn't find any blank ones. You can find only movies for sale on that format.
