See why this is not a great VCR , and how to choose better.

Pros Was inexpensive.
Cons It broke in about 6 months.
Recommended it? No
Searching for an inexpensive VCR? That's probably what we were thinking when we purchased this JVC. That is where we first went wrong. You cant buy something because it is cheap. In this case cheap meant cheap parts and plastic. There are many things that make this VCR a bad choice.

First of all, the price is not worth the short life that this product had. If I could have done it over, I would have bought a good quality VCR for more money. Its not worth trading quality for the price that you spend on anything. And this is a perfect example. We spent a little less than $100 on this item which lasted about 6 months. I could have spent $150 more and bought a good quality Sony (which we did after our JVC broke).

What happened to my JVC? We used it like a normal family would. Maybe an hour a day or less. And after about 6 months the flimsy plastic buttons on the front like STOP snapped into the machine. Now the only way to use the VCR is with the remote. But since the remote does not have an EJECT button, the VCR was useless! To get video's out of it, I had to reach a long object into the hole where the STOP button used to be and try to find on the inside where the STOP depression place was. This led to some of my tapes getting ruined by accidentally pressing the RECORD button. To make a long story short, I was very disappointed with this VCR and recommend that you do not purchase it.

There were a few good features built into this VCR however. You can set timers and the clock feature on it. You can program it to record when you are away also. The record features are changable, like tape speed which varies from SP (standard play) to EP (extended play). The VCR has an imput and output port for sending pictures and sound in and out, however the sound is only mono and so for you people who want great sound quality you won't find it here. The remote is not bad, it has a TV function so you can use your TV and VCR with the same remote. You can change the channel up or down, or just plug in the number. You can even adjust the TV Volume with the VCR remote. So I would say that the remote might be the best part about the entire package.

Although some features are okay, they are mostly in all VCRs that you look at, so I urge you to not waste your money here. Dont sacrifice the quality of your VCR because you can get it at a good price. I recommend the Sony SLV-975HF It is not too expensive, but delivers excellent picture and sound quality, is made of strong materials, and will last you a long time. It has all of the features of this JVC plus much much more. You won't be disappointed if you invest in this Sony! I'm not trying to bash JVC either. They make many good quality VCRs as well. Just don't go buying one like this from them for the price alone. Happy VCR Hunting.
