The Bottom Line:
To my knowledge, there is no other VCR in this price range(except maybe a similar JVC model) that has the picture quality and features that this VCR has.
I was looking for a silver, S-VHS VCR and one that had S-video output. Basically, JVC was my only option. Consumer Reports gave it an excellent performance rating and stated it was the only S-VHS unit in there tests that actually produced improved picture quality over the standard VHS units. I wasn't going to pay $500 for it. E-tronics had it for $369 plus about $22 for shipping. That seemed reasonable to me but only time will tell on reliability.
It looks and feels like a well-crafted, high quality unit. It has more features than I will ever use and rewinds at turbo speed. Remote is nice and user-friendly.
