The Bottom Line:
Exceeded my expectations. I would buy it again. Pros outweigh the cons by a large margin
I received the Stereo head unit for my birthday and had it installed by our local retailer. I couldn't be happier with the performance of the stereo. The display is easy to read and even scrolls the CD and song titles if the CD was recorded with this information on it. The user can select a display mode to show the clock, the cd title, song title, or track number and track time. When listening to the radio the user can select between the clock and the tuned station. Selection of station presets is easily accomplished with the numbered keys on the bottom of the unit's face or you can scroll through the presets with the arrow keys on the right side of the operation panel.
Sound quality is excellent for a unit in this price range. I have owned more expensive units and they didn't sound any better than this one. the low frequency response is better than expected. My factory stereo was made by Alpine and I thought it sounded pretty good until I got this one (My factory unit did not have CD player). I did not replace speakers, so the only variable is the head unit and my JVC wins hands down.
I don't really have much use for the remote control but I have tested it just to make sure it works, and it does. I can adjust volume and/or select cd tracks or radio stations with it, I just don't need a remote control because this is a mid sized passenger car.
I love the display and the flexibility to change it based on personal preferences. The display is bright and multi colored, and I think it is easy to read day or night. MP3 capability is a huge plus, especially when shopping for a unit in this price range because of the large number of songs that can be put on a single CD in the MP3 format. There isn't a need for a 10 or 12 disc changer anymore. It is easy to set up station presets, and the user can select up to three different sets of FM (great if you share the car with a spouse) stations and one set of AM presets. I also like the setup of the built in EQ presets that can be selected for different types of music. The user can also manually set up the EQ settings if none of the built in ones are exactly what you want.
Some of the buttons are really small on this unit and it takes a while to learn where all of the important buttons are located. You will not be able to look over and read the button's description while driving, especially at night since the button descriptions are not illuminated. you will just have to learn which buttons do what the hard way (unless you want to spend some time memorizing the layout as shown in the manual that accompanies the stereo.
This product exceeded my expectations. I would recommend it to others.
