The Bottom Line:
If you have a good speaker setup you should get this. Otherwise know that it is very powerful and you will want to look into getting better speakers.
Just got this last week. This replaced a Sony MP3 CD unit I had in my car that broke.
The sound quality is outstanding. It's almost TOO powerful. I have a Subaru Legacy with stock speakers; they're pretty bad, but my previous Sony wasn't as powerful, so it didn't send as much sound to the speakers. This one is much much louder and much clearer. But if I go above 30-35 volume the sound becomes very distorted if you have any bass or treble in the sound at all. I can fix this by going into the unit's setup and changing the output to "low power", but it doesn't get very loud. I guess I will need to buy some new speakers sometime later this year, because this unit is really maxing out my audio setup. I don't fault the KD-G310 for this though, once I get better speakers it will sound great. MP3 playback is excellent, it supports 8 to 320kbps MP3 audio, CBR and VBR. The KD-G310 eliminates as much of the gap in between songs as possible and transitions are very quick. My old Sony would take a good 3-4 seconds in between tracks sometimes. Also, seeking back and forth is extremely fast for mp3's, on my old Sony it would take almost the length of the entire song to skip through the whole thing. This seems to go at 2x-3x that speed at the very least, which is impressive for a CD deck with MP3 capability. The EQ is pretty decent and also features a "loudness" feature that I would imagine is only a good idea to use if your audio setup can handle a lot of bass. If it can't, don't use this, you will kill your speakers. One complaint about the EQ is, unlike my old Sony, it ONLY has bass and treble control. My old Sony unit, in addition to bass and treble, has mid control as well, which I usually set at -1 or -2 but I can't do that.
