Nice Unit
Pros
Error free DVD playback.
Cons
Optical output active playing VCR .
Recommended it?
Yes
VCR part equal to my HR-S9800U units. Excellent editing but no control of INDEX insertion or deletion. End up with Index marks every place a recording session begins. This makes Index Search ability useless.
DVD has played everything without error, including discs my Sony jukebox has trouble with.
Optical DVD output of unit activates digital decoder in receiver with VCR but does not actually have a signal. Have to turn off optical or use separate inputs to receiver for VCR audio.
IR remote codes not unique but unit can be set to 4 different code sets. Shares codes with S9800U "A", "B" and XV-S45 DVD. Might be a problem if you have other JVC equipment in your system. Might save you time if you use a Pronto.
