Much better than my Pioneer

Pros Easy to use, Great sound, 5-band EQ, Sub preouts, Customizable
Cons Display readability, CD pause button?
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Great buy. It's the best stereo I've owned.
I installed this stereo last night and managed to get familiar with most of it's controls during my daily commute. It really provides a high degree of customization. I was able to choose between several pre-selected display colors (ex. Sky Blue, Apple Green, etc) and even decide on the contrast ratio setting. In fact I was further able to select a negative display (or reversed out) so that the highlights became the shadows and the shadows became the highlights -- very cool. There is also an option to choose an extra bold font for the display, which worked great in daylight situations. The negative (or reversed out) display worked the best along with a lower contrast setting (good readability).

The KD-LH300 is packed full of gadgets. One great feature is it's ability to automatically tilt (motorized) the face panel at 3 different angles. Discovering that was kind of like finding a hyperspeed button in the glove box. The front panel also works very smoothly when it lowers to eject a CD. Unlike my Pioneer which has a very poor eject that stopped working early on, the JVC seems to have a very powerful but slow metered eject that will hopefully last. I actually bought the JVC because of the eject problem with my Pioneer and because it lacks the sub preouts.

There are other un-explored features that may or may not be cool. You can actually create your own graphics (Pict format) and burn them to a CDR and the KD-LH300 will read them off the disc and let you use these custom graphics.

The sound quality was very good, and the built-in amp does a great job of articulating the mid-range and low-range sound, where some stereo and speaker combos just do not pick up on that level of detail. In fact it sounded so good I lost track of all the various unpleasant sounds my aging Camry makes while traversing the busy streets of LA.

Some other welcomed features are a sub level control and 5-band EQ. There doesn't seem to be a pause button on the JVC, like on my Pioneer, but it does have a button called (ATT?) and that dims/mutes the sound when you need to talk to someone in the car or pull up to a ticket booth.

The next stage will be to install my new Kenwood 4 channel amp and hook up a Rockford Fosgate 10" P2 sub. It's probably going to be overkill, but I've really been longing for some bass lately.
