JVC KD-SH707 a winner.

Pros Great sound, impressive features, flawless MP3 playback, beautiful look.
Cons Display a touch dim.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  All round winner, JVC has taken the already magnificent KD-SH99 and refined it with Digifine 2.2.
I've been shopping around for a MP3 player for my car for a couple of months now. The 707 fulfilled each one of my requirements, in order:

1) Sound quality - This was really impressive, I'm still using the stock 6 inch speakers that came with my Honda, and its dazzling. The sound distorts only slightly when volume is at its maximum (too loud for comfort), but this is probably due the ancient and frankly dilapidated speakers.

2) Low price - Compared to other MP3 models, like the Alpine and Kenwood, this one is fairly cheap at $270.

3) MP3 - Having read dismal reviews about how other decks offer inferior MP3 features, I was apprehensive when I slid in my first MP3 CD. I couldn't have wished for better. This deck supports all bit rates (even VBR), folder trees up to 49 levels deep, easy navigation using remote control, picks up ID3v1 tags from inside the MP3 file and scrolls them smoothly, and unlike its rivals, it supports Joliet name encoding of the CDR.

4) Features and gadgets - I have always been a slave to glitzy gadgets and superfluous eye candy. When I turned on the 707 I was impressed by the display. When playing a CD it shows a graphic of a spinning CD, when listening to radio, it shows a rotating antennae dish, all smoothly and with bitmap sprite art. The box advertises multi color display, but it's not, it's all pale blue and black. When you press the eject button, the faceplate moves out and down smoothly and quickly, revealing the slot behind. When you turn on your headlights, the display dims slightly (optional). Almost all the features (including display graphics) are customizable using a menu.

All in all, I know I will get years of pleasure from this stalwart and recommend it heartily. Any questions? grahamrichter@hotmail.com
