Best birthday wish come true
Pros
Great sound at any volume...Best when LOUD!
Cons
Very bulky for the "compact stereo" category
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
If you are looking for quality sound from a top quality manufacturer, this is a great choice. If you have limited space, check out JVC's smaller models.
I researched shelf stereo systems for weeks before buying one for my birthday, I ran into this baby in a home products catalog listed at $499. I fell in love with the list of features, but was unimpressed at first by the appearance. When I got online to compare prices, I decided that features "overpowered" looks at the low price of $275!!
When the unit arrived, it was in the biggest box I have ever seen for a stereo. The darn thing wouldn't fit on my stereo table!!! After toying with several options, I ended up running about 300 feet of speaker wire to the corners of my living room and keeping the three parts of the stereo separate. It works out great for accoustics and space.
One very cool feature that my favorite electronics manufacturer failed to mention about this model is that the remote control waves will bounce off my TV screen and control the stereo unit form the opposite direction! I wish the remote controlled the clock functions, but I am happy with the performance overall. You can control equalizer functions with the remote and tweak your volume and bass output independently. It will rattle your neighbors windows at full volume, but still has high quality sound at volume setting 7 or 8. The rolling faceplate is an eye-cathcing conversation piece and the 400 total watts will drown out any conversation you don't want to have. I find myself buying music I wouldn't normally spend money on just for its bass content to test my system.
