I bought this product at Sears for about 170 dollars with a price match and with my employee discount, and also bought the installation for about 80. I chose this unit because i trust JVC due to their excellent quality and brand name. (My home cd player is also made by them, you can find that review also on epinions)
Lets talk about features. The silver finish and nice bright screen caught my eye. The animation of the screen is great, like how characters kind of turn and morph into other characters (like when the time 4:05 changes to 4:06, it goes through a little animation) Also, you can change the angle of the face (or front) of the cd player so that it is visible in high or low light situations. Additionaly you can name cds using this head unit, so when you put the cd in, you can actually see it's name instead of just the track time. It can also receive standard FM and AM radio stations and plays them back with ease. Controls are easy to use, and easy to find. The only problem with this cd player is that when you eject a disc, it comes out rather slow, and that it does not play MP3 files.
Sound quality is excellent. It plays cd's, cdrw's, and cdr's with ease with great accuracy. It hardly skips (unless you go over thick railroad tracks) and provides an enjoyable uninterrupted sound stream. It has additional features to enhance sound, like bass boost, and an equalizer, so you get the most out of your music. You can also control the unit from an included remote control, which is ultra thin and very light weight.
Security is a big issue with car cd players since they can be stolen. This cd player has that taken care of. The face is removable, which means you can easily take it off at night when you are not in the car so it can not be stolen. It includes a small case for the face to protect it when it is not connected.
Since this unit is made by a great brand, plays back disc nicely, and has great sound reproduction, and a nice screen, id recommend it to anyone looking for a player. Save yourself some money and go for the JVC KD-SH55.
