Has the looks and the sound quality!

Pros Great quality sound, looks really good, lots of options
Cons Volume knob may get annoying, difference between single digit volumes is large
Recommended it? Yes
So far I've had this cd-receiver in 2 cars, a '79 BMW 733i and currently a 96 Ford Explorer. In both cars the sound has been great.

But, of course, I can't compare because of the difference in speakers (new speakers were bought for the BMW as well)

However, the sound has always sound good, whether coming from small 4" speakers of the BMW or the larger 6" x 9" of the Explorer. This thing has got a lot of power and can really push out some booming bass and screaming highs. It can get LOUD with no distortion, very very nice.

The system has an option called "BBE", which makes everything sound VERY nice. Once you have this option on you won't want to turn it off. What I believe it does is separate the bass and treble a bit, making the sound much fuller. Very very nice.

The faceplate comes off for security, and flips down to enter/eject a cd. That works very well.

Also, there are a lot of buttons to either preset radio stations (which come in very nice) or skip to certain tracks on a cd (there are 6 buttons, and when held down skip to the song 6 ahead... For example, hold down 1 and it will go to song 7)

The faceplate looks very nice as well, especially in the dark. Colorful and lively, with the 2 speaker levels being shown by the colored bar.

There are a few things I would change though.

One, the rotating volume knob to turn up the system. It "clicks" every time it is supposed to go up one volume number, yet doesn't always do so. I don't know if something is wrong with my system, but when turning it quickly it sometimes bounces around the same number, going backwards sometimes.

Also, the number 1 volume, the lowest it can go, is quite loud. Now, I don't know if this is specific to my car, because in the BMW I had to turn it up to 30 or 40 to have it at a listenable level.

Aside from these, this is a very very nice cd player. It has gold connectors for optimum sound quality, which clearly is shown by the sound of it. I left out a lot in this review, mostly other options it has, but they can be seen by going to the product page at JVC's website. I recommend this item.
