The mp3 deck to get at the moment
Pros
Lots of features for the price. Sounds and looks great.
Cons
Display maybe too bright for some
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
200 bucks total with accessories. Great deal and a good sound. The best price/performance deck at the moment.
A gorgeous deck! As an aging boomer, I am preferring that my electronics be functional and simple to use. This deck is both that and pleasing to look at without the silly graphics some others have. You should be looking at the road and not the deck. I've read that it's too bright for some but I found okay. It doesn't dim down to a faint glow but I didn't find it distracting.
The mp3 feature is great. I had an oem 6 disk changer that died so I decided to replace the changer and head unit. With this unit, I didn't need the changer. One mp3 disk, with files ripped at 128 or better sound just as good as the originals. You're in a car after all not in an audiophile studio. There's no way you're going to get that kind of ambiance without spending serious bucks. With one mp3 filled disk, I have more music than my changer and can access it faster.
The unit has a rotary knob for the volume and preset sound controls - rock, jazz, concert, etc. You can also set your own but I found these settings just fine.
Though this unit has a detachable face plate, my car has oem anti-theft. The unit is not part of the system but once someone breaks in, the noise and lights generally scare away the evil doers.
I've gone over some bumpy roads and I yet to make the cd skip. The unit can control a changer if I install one in the future. I may just do that when JVC puts out one that reads mps. Their present selections do not but when they do, imagine having over 60 hours of music with you. Whew!
I bought mine from autotoys.com They had everything to make my installation go smoothly - harness adapter to connect to the oem wiring, trim plate to mount the deck and a user forum to post questions about your installation. They usually reply the next day. Oh yeah, free shipping on this deck. Like Crutchfield, the people there specialize and know what they're talking about.
