The Bottom Line:
If you have a portable mp3 player and want to write and use .mp3 cd's in the car, this unit will do the trick effectively & inexpensively.
I was looking for a deck that would allow me to keep my music collection in my home so that it stays safe and scratch free. This unit had the features that I was looking for and was reasonably priced so I picked one up after I spilled coffee on my dash and ultimately into the disk mechanism of my existing cd deck. A little advice for the more carefree, cup holders were created for a reason!
Even though most of my music is on an ipod i wanted to be able to plug the ipod into my car stereo rather than using an fm radio transmitter. The JVC sx990 does the trick and plays mp's from CD-ROMs as well. You will need to purchase your own 1'8" in/out which can be purchased at radio shack for $5.
I can't complain about the 3 band eq for car usage. I think the sound is excellent. It is as nice as my former clarion cd deck but better with the front input and mp3 decoder.
It's nice to have my whole music collection in my car without worrying about scratching the originals!
