JVC's Top of the Line
Pros
Excellent sound, lots of features, satellite remote, many inputs
Cons
Volume always resets to 30 when turned off, strange TV Sound feature
Recommended it?
Yes
The manufacturer's suggested retail price of $900 is way too high for this product. I bought mine for $557 on line... If you want to know where, please email me. But it's not too difficult to find a price much better than the MSRP online.
The receiver I have DOES NOT hiss at volumes above 60. This is one of the main complaints of this unit. Maybe I lucked out... but, I can turn this receiver up past 60 without hearing the hiss I've read so much about. Perhaps it's because I am using some high quality Polk Audio speakers attached with Monster Cable speaker wire. Who knows?
The sound is excellent. It's clear and precise. It has digital audio inputs for DVD, CD, and Mini, plus a digital coax input for DBS - very nice! The sound quality is amazing. The remote control is OK. However, it is backlit in red which is kind of strange. It doesn't make reading the buttons extremely easy in the dark. Included with the receiver is a remote signal box that has to be pointed at the receiver to work. It changes radio signals into infrared signals. This means I can be in a completely separate room in the house listening to the stereo, and if I want to change the volume or radio station (or anything else) all I have to do is use the remote control. It sends a radio signal that is converted in the signal box to infrared which in turn does the desired function on the receiver. It's kind of handy.
The volume control is kind of awkward... It takes a lot of turns to increase the volume. And the volume always has to be increased because when the receiver is shut off, the volume always sets down to a level of 30.
One very strange feature about this receiver is the TV Sound input. When I plug the TV's audio output into the receiver's TV Sound input, the receiver stays on as long as the TV is on. Even if I turn the receiver off, within a few seconds it turns right back on again automatically. It's such an odd feature, that I plugged the TV's audio output into the receiver's VCR2 audio input. Problem bandaged. Unfortunately, if I add a second VCR to the system there will be problems.
Overall, this receiver is very nice. It is absolutely loaded with features and options - and the sound is excellent!
