The Heart of an Economical Home Theater

byhroeder Jul 12, 2000
10 Helpfuls 11 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Price, power, convenience, layout, JVC
Cons one S-VHS in and out, no component video in or out
Recommended it? Yes

This is last years model. Which means it has one or two short comings. The biggest short coming is that it only has one connection for S-VHS and that is listed as DVD. BUT. . .it has two optical digital inputs; one for optical Digital DVD and one for CD. It'll push a small subwoofer, will connect... Read full review »

Pros Great looking, Great sounding
Cons My refurbished unit had a problem and had to be sent in for repair.
Recommended it? Yes

I bought JVC mainly because of the compulink control. You can easily control everything from one remote control and turn on your TV, VCR, and Receiver with the push of just one button on your remote control! This model also has easy on screen menus to help you set up you system to your personal... Read full review »

Good Value

byBenjamin Dec 7, 1999
9 Helpfuls 10 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Superior features with good design and good specs
Cons no sixth channel
Recommended it? Yes

I've been building myself a serious component stereo system for the past year and this is the receiver I decided to get. Right now, I have just two floor-standing speakers, but I still got this receiver which has dolby digital home theater capabilities for up to five speakers. (There really aren't... A good basic receiver

bymdbrown Mar 17, 2002

Pros Digital Dolby, universal remote, lots of radio presets
Cons No DTS, no coax digital input, could use more video inputs, hiss
Recommended it? Yes

At this price point, this receiver is probably as good as it gets. While it lacks DTS and coax digital input it has good power, dolby digital, and a very good universal remote. As I noted in the pros and cons, it has a bit more hiss than I would prefer. I will take that though, over the tinny high... Read full review »

Solid receiver

bybumba220 Dec 3, 2001

Pros Feature-packed, 5.1 Digital Surround, 110 watts per channel front/100 watts per channel...
Cons Only one S-Vid in, no DTS, only two optical inputs
Recommended it? Yes

I bought this receiver several years ago... so that means 1. I paid more than it goes for now - and 2. it was at a time when DTS wasn't standard.

Because of this, my only real beef with the receiver is that I wish it had a DTS decoder because the DVD player I have has DTS capability. For... Read full review »

Pros Features, price
Cons Hot, not enough power for a large HT
Recommended it? Yes

This product was priced right, had all of the necessary HT features, and it had a respectable name (JVC). In the 9 months I have owned it, it has performed admirably, and I highly recommend it.

- easy to program radio presets
- great sound
- huge number of inputs (optical, RCA,... Read full review »

Pros Price, Quality, Value
Cons Not top of the line, clumsy remote
Recommended it? Yes

Last year, I decided to add more living space to the house and turned my attached 1 and 1/2 garage into a family room. This gave me a great excuse to buy a big screen TV (only 32 inch, though). After a while, I decided we needed the surround sound receiver that I planned for all along. I looked... Read full review »

Pros Full featured entry level machine.
Cons Limited by no coaxal port for 5.1 digital.
Recommended it? Yes

About 5 months ago, I went out and purchased my first Dolby Digital receiver and it sound fantastic. The JVC company did a great job by providing me with easy to read instructions and a high quality remote control. It works great for watching DVD's in Dolby Digital and upgrading your televisions... Pros Good interface, solid components, very powerful (!!!).
Cons No coaxial digital in, no 5 channel stereo mode.
Recommended it? Yes

I bought this JVC Rx778vbk off of eBay about two months ago, to go with a bunch of Wharfedale speakers I bought from uBid. I was looking forward to hooking up my computer's sound card to the receiver and being able to watch DVD's, play games, and so on in glorious 3-d sound. Unfortunately, my plans... Read full review »
