Solid receiver

Pros Feature-packed, 5.1 Digital Surround, 110 watts per channel front/100 watts per channel center and rear
Cons Only one S-Vid in, no DTS, only two optical inputs
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  JVC often puts out high-quality audio products, and this is no exception. I am still enjoying it every bit as much as I did when I bought it.
I bought this receiver several years ago... so that means 1. I paid more than it goes for now - and 2. it was at a time when DTS wasn't standard.

Because of this, my only real beef with the receiver is that I wish it had a DTS decoder because the DVD player I have has DTS capability. For that I only have myself to blame. It figures a year and a half later they figure out how to fit both DTS and Dolby Digital compression on one disc, and I'm out of luck.

Other than that, the receiver is packed with useful features and connectivity. The two optical inputs provide a superior digital audio connection for things like DVD players, Minidisc players, CD players, etc. I have both my DVD player and my CD player hooked up using this digital connection, and the difference is apparent.. much less hiss and noise in the channels. I do wish I had a third input like most Sony receivers offer for my Playstation 2.

There are a number of surround modes when not using the Dolby Digital 5.1 mode such as Theater, 3D, and Pro-Logic. The adjustable equalizer allows you to independently adjust the bass, treble, and mid-range levels as well as provides a series of preset EQ settings for convenience.

110 watts for each front channel is excellent, and one should never need more than that for a strong, floor rumbling start to a home theater system. The receiver provides a strong 100 watts to the center, rear right, and rear left channels each.

Speaking of floor rumbling, the JVC provides a sub woofer output, although it is not powered (ie you must purchase a powered sub to use with this receiver)

One other downfall is the limited S-Video in/out capability (S-Video, not to be confused with S-VHS, which is a tape format). It would be nice to be able to connect multiple S-Video sources and have the receiver work as a switcher for those of us with only one S-Video input on our televisions.
