Great receiver for the money. (JVC RX 888VBK)

Pros all the s-video inputs I need, DTS & 5.1, easy to hook up.
Cons The DTS & 5.1 here is not the best I had or heard.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  The DTS and 5.1 are very good in this model, but the features available here are so amazing and easy.
Well, this JVC receiver caught my eye when I saw it in Costco for $299. I was looking to upgrade the receiver I had because it was two different components taking up too much room. I had the Technics decoder, (which made the DTS and 5.1 movies sound better than this one), and a Yahmaha receiver.

Since this JVC had everything in one I wanted it. Plus it had other features that I needed. It had enough s-video inputs for my DVD player, my SVHS tape player, and my Dish Network satellite receiver.

Those features are some of the things that I will look for when I upgrade this one, except now the 6.1 and the 7.1 receivers are drawing me to them, but then their price pushes me away. I'll wait a couple more months before they go down.

Another thing I like about this component is the ability to change from DVD to Satellite to VCR all from the remote control. Some receivers out there still don't have this option. Some still want you to purchase the s-video switcher which is ridiculous. But the best is, with this JVC model, is that when you switch from satellite TV to DVD, you notice that you have to raise the volume to hear the DVDs just as loud as the TV (because of the digital sound I suppose), and then when you switch back you startle your family because the volume is still so loud. The awesome feature with this model is that it remembers the volume for each component attached to your receiver. So I have my TV volume on 25, and when I switch to DVD, the volume is already on 49, and when I switch back it goes back to 25.
You're right, I have to look for that feature too when I upgrade.

Anyway, this JVC model does have all the features you need, and you will be happy with, and it does have great sound for TV and DVD playing.
Remember not all 5.1 and DTS is the same, it should be, but it's not. I mean, don't get me wrong, the sound is great, it's just that I heard better.
