The Bottom Line:
Don't wait, buy it now!
Slick, simple and elegant, the XV-BP1 is the right product at the right time. With BD Live and USB jack on the front, you are ready to play nearly any video, audio or photo file at your convenience with outstanding 1080p upconversion.
I needed a Blu-Ray player and was waiting for JVC to make one. The wait was worth it! I download movies, I rip them to my hard drive, and I use my Media Center PC to record TV. Now I just throw these files on a DVD-RW or even on my 8mb USB memory stick and watch them with no hassel, and without any hiccups.
The upconversion of regular DVDs is so smooth they are nearly indistinguishable from hi-def. And the quality of DIVX .avi files when viewed is far better than I expected. And when you watch hi-def Blu-Ray discs your jaw will drop.
The USB port is the winning feature, to be sure. In addition to a memory stick, I have attached a 10-in-1 memory card reader with a Micro SD card in it's adapter attached and had no problems (although the manual doesn't guarantee this will work.
I've had it for nearly a month now and watched a few dozen movies without a single error or freeze-up. Bravo JVC!
