Multiple Uses, What A Handy Little TV!

Pros Compact, option to hook up cable, three power sources. Inexpensive and a multitude of uses
Cons depending on your area you may only pick up a few channels.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Never be caught in a power outage again without radio or tv. Perfect for multiple uses, even every day use.
There are a number of reasons why this mini tv could come in handy, more than I realized when I first went on the hunt for one. I will address those later in my review.

If you cant find this name brand in your store, try looking for one that says Spectra on it rather than Jensen, same model number, exactly as the picture, just different name.

This model is a 5" black and white tv. Now before you groan at the thought of a black and white unit, consider the price! I purchased this for $25 and it has been well worth it. For everyday use I leave it plugged in and sitting on my kitchen counter (power pack included). You do have other power options however. There is an included car power supply cord for taking this tv along on car trips and you also have the option for battery backup, requiring 10 C batteries. You can expect 5-7 hours use on the batteries. There isn't a low battery indicator but when the screen starts to distort and minimize, that is your warning.

The tv casing is small in size, 6 1/4 inches wide, 6 1/2 inches tall and 8 inches deep. Very light weight, made of a plastic material with a built in handle on the top for carrying. It is amazingly light weight but the 10 batteries of course make it heavier.

For reception you have an extendable antennae and the option to use an external antennae (plug included). For about $3.50 you can purchase a cable plug that attaches and can hook cable tv service to this model! I imagine your reception varies depending on where you live. Living in a very small town without even a traffic light, I wasn't expecting much. Without the cable service attached I can pick up about 2 channels on the vh selection and about 3-5 channels on the uhf selection, depending on where Ive placed it. With cable hooked up I still can't get every channel but do get several more than I do without. Turning the channels are done by rotating a knob on the front of the tv, in the middle is a panel that shows what channel you should be on for both the radio and the tv channels. It does not have a light so during camping trips or evenings on the porch you can't tell what channel you are on by looking at it. There is one other knob on the front that is for volume. I am very pleasantly pleased with both reception for the tv and the sound that comes from the built in speakers located on the side of the tv. The sound is loud and clear however on the highest setting it does get a big muffled. I have found if you need it that loud to begin with, you probably are so far away from the unit that you couldn't see it anyway.

On the side of the tv are your selections with a slide button to select for radio or tv and if you want vh or uhf. On the back you have knobs to turn to adjust contrast, brightness and to adjust the screen. This is also where you will find your inputs for power, antennae and audio and video plugs. Audio and video plugs I have not used and can't comment on how well they work. You may also plug in headphones but must purchase those separately.
Batteries go in a compartment on the bottom base of the tv.

As far as the radio, you have the choice of both am and fm, I actually get a better reception on the radio than I do my home stereo, picking up several stations!

Uses
*camping
*tail gating
*tv/radio for a porch or garage
*compact tv/radio for kitchen or bathroom
*Power outages caused by hurricane, summer storms, blizzards, or other natural disasters, and hopefully not because you forgot to pay your bill =-)
*college dorms
*boating
*extra tv for hotel room
*traveling by car, van, even haul it on your motorcycle for use when parked.
*guest bedroom
*pool side (don't leave out in full sun or wet weather)
*family room bar
*office
*on your home desk
*hooking up video or audio equipment
*and any other place you want a tv or radio!

I have been very pleased with my purchase, I wish it picked up a few more channels but am more than happy with the ones that it does. The channels that do come in are clear and I have no problems seeing it from across a room, despite being only a 5" screen. It would be nice if this were a color model, but I am content with the black and white for what purposes I use it for and the price couldn't be beat!
I hope this review helped you decide if this would be a good purchase for you. Thank you for reading!
