The Bottom Line:
If you are a stickler for sound quality and accuracy then your search is over. If you just want loud and blaring bass then get cheap subs.
Ever since high school I have wanted a good soundsystem in my car, my friend introduced me to JL Audio when he bought a 12" W1 series a number of years back. He was one of those sorts who was never content with what he had and changed his sound system out numerous times. The only time it ever sounded good was when he had JL Audio Subs in his car. JL Audio subs are not the biggest power handlers in the world but what were are talking about here is quality not quantity. Virtually every other brand of subs that I have heard suffers from this annoying distorted fuzz that completely ruins the sound of the subs and gives you a frightful headache to boot. JL Audios hit hard but have a clarity that is hard to match. This is what the W0 series in particular specializes in. Clarity and Accuracy are what this series is all about. I have 2 of these 10" W0s in a sealed box and the sound that is produced by them is unbelievable. As always your subs are only as good as your amp. Make sure you get a very clean amp to match up with these. I recommend JL Audio amps. Very clean power and they are obviously matched to these subs. While these subs only handle 100watts RMS, they can easily handle so much more provided your amp is pushing clean power. I have a Precision Power Amp that is pushing 400watts mono and these subs handle them without a hitch. Been running them this way for almost 2 years and never had a problem. While other people can beat me with sheer volume, I can absolutely DESTROY top of line subs from other brands when it comes to accuracy and clarity. I listen to alot of music that demands accuracy (ie multiple bass drum punches) and my JL 10" W0 subs hit every single punch while other subs that cost 3-4 times as much sound like a person falling down the stairs as they struggle to hit each one. It should also be noted that sealed enclosures are best for these subs as they provide the most accuracy.
Bottom Line: If you just want loud bass then go for cheap subs like Rockford or MTX, if you want clarity and accuracy then your search is over.
