Great value for SW Shortwave Radio JWIN

bykbharv May 27, 2006
Pros Surprisingly good SW pull
Cons not complete range from 3 to 30 MHz
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  if you might want to try SW or hv any interest in it, pls BUY this machine
IF you can find this radio,
and you will, for less than 16 dollars delivered
to your door, GET IT.

if you already have Good FM and good AM
and have NO interest in SW, shortwave, then,
you wont really need it, though....

i got this radio for the SW, Shortwave.
IT CAPTURES SW surprisingly well.
tight pull and good sensitivity.

i have other real receivers from Yaesu, etc..
but just had to buy one of these to play
and experiement with, and find out what
a 10 dollar thing might be able to do...

what a surprise.

IF you get hair thin WIRE to attach to this
radio's telescopic antenna, and let the other
end of the WIRE OUT your window...
you will not believe the reception strength of Shortwave
you can get with this thing.

Surprisingly, the speaker on this thing is not bad,
and intelligebility of what is being said,
is actually good !

it wont compare to receivers costing in hundreds,
but for this tiny price, it is VERY VERY GOOD...

here are some important things to note :

it is NOT continuous from 3 to 30 MHz... no.
it is scattered up .. from about 6 MHz, to
18 MHz.

even in this diminished range, it is not continous.
for example, it goes from 6 to 6.20 only.
next range goes from 7 to 7.30, etc..

so you might NOT be able to catch quite a few
stations of interest.
but
again, as a toy, to play with, non serious, it
is VERY GOOD....surprising too.

it takes 2 AA size batteries and has input
for 3 VDC input too. use rechargeable batteries.

the FM goes from 88 to 108, and AM goes from 0.54
to 1.6 .. pretty standard.. and quality is so so.

perhaps the FM and AM
in your other radios or attached to your mp3 player
might sound better for these cases.

the SW, shortwave
is the BIG thing here in this
tiny miracle.

the TUNING is done as if by normal analog dial.
however, the LCD shows you in its
numeric display where you are...
this is quite useful and VERY NECESSARY
especially for SW, shortwave capture.

i would guess for more money, JWIN probably offers
better , continous 3 - 30 MHz range radios, but
i would like to know brutally honest opinions
on that from others.

for your first foray in the world of SW, shortwave
or as gift, or as a toy to play with,
you will not go wrong with this machine.

Tell you what.. supposing you already have some
SW radios, even much better ones.. or any
quality for that matter.... pls dont forget
this (limited range) SW radio to ADD TO
YOUR COLLECTION. it is simply one of the
few rare things in the world of SW to have the
guts to compete from the bottom end ( in price
i mean ). it is really worth it, as a curiosity,
a collection ( working pc ) , and NOT to be missed.

got some to give as gifts to introduce others
into the SW world of fun.

oh, the thing has a clock , timer function,
and alarm too !

one highly sensitive, actually working,
very affordable and fun ... toy?
or is it a toy anymore...

thanks
