I was shocked

byjunkot Jun 22, 2006
Pros slim, affordable, free region(can play DVD from any countries)
Cons broke too soon
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  I can't recommend because it became useless in 9 months.
I saw this product on some online shop for Japanese people in USA (I am one of them and the store get Japanese books, DVD, CD, Medicine, etc.. from Japan for us). people like me want to watch Japanese DVD, but in US and with DVD player for US DVD can't play Japanese DVD. This Jwin 501 can play DVD from all countries- a region free DVD player. the price was under $100, and look very slim, so I ordered one. it was last summer(August 2005), and by May 2006, it completely became useless.
I'd like to let you know what happened to it. Within 30 days from purchase, I had noticed that sometimes this player can't close when I placed DVD and pressed Close button, but it went by lightly pushing the dish, so I didn't consider complaining to the online store or contacting Jwin, then within 45 days, I noticed that suddenly DVD stopped when I was watching and once it happened, I can't replay or repeat the same scene, I was only allowed to to next chapter or stop to start again. But still I did not contact the store or Jwin because I thought my warranty period was 30 days and I thought it was over at the time and since I purchased it online and received by mail, so I thought complicated and taking time(return again and have to pay for shipping, and have to wait for repair or exchange to be shipped to me again), then in 9 month after purchase, I noticed the machine can't get power-electricity! plug was in the outlet but nothing turned on by pressing power button. As you see, electronics without power is useless.

I finally contacted Jwin and they said they could give me Return authorization, but I didn't have a receipt from the store for proof of purchase, so I contacted the Japanese online store for asking re-issuing my receipt, and I casually mentioned the reason for needing the receipt then, and the store offered me to exchange to it a new model 502. I hope 520 is okey(I am waiting to get it now). I think 501 is discontinued or will be soon.
