The Bottom Line:
If you need something inexpensive to get you started...look no further than KLH
I bought this reciever from best buy about a year ago. As of yet I have not had any problems whatsoever with it. For the price, i was skeptical that it was going to perform very well, but at the time I didn't care. At first I didn't demand much of it other than playing my 2 year old's copy of Shrek constantly in surround sound so at least I would get some enjoyment out of it. As time progressed I upgraded all of my wiring and speakers and was blown away at the reciever's performance in DTS. DTS is great and the reciever does just as well a job as my friend's $900 sony. Some of the adjustments you can make in regards to the surround sound setup are a little simplistic, but that's nice for the person that wants great, vibrant, surround sound without taking out the measuring tape and figuring how may eighths of an inch the speaker is from the floor, ceiling, tv, couch etc like you have to do with some of the really high end recievers. It has all of the digital and analog hookups you would find on the high end recievers as well. As far as some of the other reviews I've read where the amp fails after a few months...I have not had that problem. The product is aesthetically and acoustically pleasing. I have also found the product surprisingly resilient (see section on two year old child) even after a juice incident and an encounter with chocolate cake that I don't want to get into. If you are looking for good starting point for a great home theater, look no further. There are much better and much worse recievers but this one will definitely do the job and I have been nothing but pleased.
