KDC-X889 Review
Pros
It is the most perfect deck for audiophiles ever. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Cons
Uh, no!
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
$230 is what you would pay for each processor if each were bought seperately.
This is one of the most powerful decks I have ever seen. I am writing this solely from the Sound Q perspective. I could care less about any frivolous features. This deck has build in crossovers for front/rear/sub and selectable slopes at 24/18/12 db per octave. The awesome thing is that the crossovers work with the deck power AND rca outputs so even the most simple of speaker systems can receive dramatic improvement by cutting the bass out completely. Then there is a 4 band, parametric eq for the front AND rear (yes they are separate). The Eq has many frequencies to adjust, +/- 9db gains and selectable q from .25 up to 2.0.
The deck also has a bunch of SRS Labs patented WOW technology like "trubass", "3D" and "focus". The short of these processors is that each one, in its own way, overcomes inherent problems of the car acoustic environment like undersized speakers, lousy speaker positions, etc. All of the SRS stuff has adjustable levels to make it compliment your equipment and tastes perfectly, not just on or off!
Built into the deck are time delays for the front, rear and subs (all separate) to allow the sound to reach your ears at the same time, and bring together the proper acoustic requirements for perfect imaging. One noticeable difference when adjusting the bass is that it does not sound like it is coming from behind.
This deck is a DSP unit, high-end crossover, parametric eq, and receiver all built into one unit. There are other features like awesome displays, G force monitor (for the fast and furious types) and Kenwood's patented AC drive stuff.
I stand behind Kenwood's products (Especially decks and amps) and this is the most awesome deck I have ever seen. By the way, yes, I own one.
