A great system depending on how you set it up
Pros
Great price, Great sound with Digital tv,Progressive cables or DTS, easy set up
Cons
surround speaker wires are too short, receiver and speakers are big
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
If you're on a budget and want to enhance your movie viewing experience, I recommend it.
I bought the Kenwood HTB-505 well over a year ago based on the reviews I read on pages like these. I was on a budget and wanted the best value for my money. When I got the system, the set up was fairly easy, I wasn't happy with the length of the wires for the surround sound speakers and felt like I needed to turn the volume up very high to enjoy the "Surround Sound " experience, also felt there were not enough inputs since i had my cable box,VCR,DVD player (not 6 channel) and Play Station 2 running through it, all With RCA wires. BUT I was very impressed with the Clarity of the sound when watching dvd's and have watched some concerts on digital tv that have been very impressive also.
About 6 months ago, my brother picked up the same system... He had his hooked to his progressive scan 6 channel DVD, using the progressive Scan cables on his 46" wide screen.
This completely transformed this system! It seems twice as loud at 1/2 the volume, sounds crystal clear, and it really does provide a True Home Theater environment, especially when watching a movie like Fast and the Furious in DTS. HDTV sounds great also. Absolutely worth it!
My 51" wide screen is being delivered tomorrow, I am excited about setting up the HTB-505 for optimum performance.
I recommend this system for the price and the quality. But I encourage you to do some research on the best way to set it up
