Complicated remote, poor quality factory wires

Yes
The Bottom Line:
Kenwood knows how to emphasize the important stuff and it shows in this pretty well rounded system.
I have had this system for about three months now and I have tried just about everything I can with it. Overall, it is a very nice system, especially for someone who wants very high quality sound in all aspects(DVD, TV, CD, Radio, etc...).
First off, installing the system is a simple matter of setting everything up and reading the instructions to configure to your room and audience. But the speaker wire that Kenwood includes really does not allow you to truly get good sound from all channels. I immediately replaced all of the wire with higher gauge and quality speaker wire. This made a huge difference, and I would say that without the improvement, I probably would have been a bit disappointed with the system.
After setup, I put the system right to the test...with a war movie. Kenwood passed with flying colors. The sound was clean and the range was great. This system has center and front channels with 2 mid range and a tweeter on each. The surround(rear) speakers have a small mid range and a tweeter. This allows great differentiation when the sound is in Dolby or better. Even when I listen to a radio station through it, this feature is very noticeable, especially on music that uses a broad range. My only complaint with the five main channels is sometimes the center is a bit overpowering over the surround channels. Even with balance adjustment, this is still occasionally noticeable.
The sub woofer is a self powered unit delivering enough power to feel it when you should, and yet also delicate enough to stay in the background when it should also.
Most of the features on this system are controlled by the remote, which is extremely large and complicated. I had to keep the instruction book around for quite awhile until I learned how to use or change even the basic features, and the more minute details are even more difficult to figure out.
After adapting all of my other components around this new system, I found out the most important thing to obtaining the high quality sound Kenwood usually has... Besides improving the speaker wire, I also added an optical cable for my DVD, and S-video for the video components. This is what truly made the system sound great. I put in a music video DVD and although I had heard the songs a thousand times before, listening to a pure digital signal from start to finish made the song sound brand new, like I had never heard the song and all of its details before.
Overall, I like this system a lot. As long as you make sure you are using high quality connections all the way through, you should be impressed also. But if you do purchase this system, be ready to read the instruction book and spend time figuring out the features.
