Kenwood KDC-322, it will touch your sweet spot
Pros
NO commercials, plenty of non stop music, receive same station wherever you roam.
Cons
Takes a little practice in using all the features.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
This is the perfect system for those who like non challenging electronics, and oldies!
I looked under my Christmas tree and didn't find a darn thing so I took myself off to Circuit City and stuffed my own darn stocking. I got me a toy for my car, where I spend most of my time anyway, the Sirius? Satellite System.
The unit came in two parts, the Kenwood KDC-322 is a CD-receiver and the Kenwood Sirius? KTC-SR902 Satellite Tuner. Trust me, this system is sweet.
Since I travel back and forth between North Carolina and Ohio quite a bit (and Wheeling ...lol...) I would always get disgusted when I would lose radio signals, especially a favorite one. Also I like the oldies and it isn't the easiest thing to find these days on the radio tuners. The KDC-322 allows me to program in the music that I want and better yet - commercial free! And then this is where your sweet spot gets warm and fuzzy, these channels follow you wherever you go, without interruption and without commercials.
The only interruption in the signal is when you are going through a tunnel, like the ones on the West Virginia Turnpike and when you enter a parking garage. Oh, life is good.
Channel selection is outstanding. I programmed in Easy Listening, Oldies, 50's, 60's, Country and I never have to touch my dial - it comes with a remote. Oh, by the way, you are not limited to the type of music I've listed, there are 60 satellite radio streams of music and 40 streams of great talk, news, sports and entertainment programs to choose from in the Sirius? system, just check their booklet that is included. As well, there are several levels to the system, each allowing you to program 6 channels per level, so overall you can have as much as 20-30 channels programmed into the system for easy access.
The other feature I really loved was the display. I can't tell you how many times Susi and I have been driving along and we hear a song then hope that the announcer mentions the name of the performer. No longer do we have to play the guessing game! Just a touch of the magic button on the front of the receiver and first the title of the song is displayed and then the performer. Ends those guessing games right then and there. You may also display a clock at all times. The lights on this puppy are cool, a blue circular light, as well as several lines of blue that raise and lower with the music. On easy listening they stay pretty consistent.
The CD feature plays one CD at a time and offers standard features like pause, play & shuffle. You can also play your MP3 recordings on the unit. What you cannot play are any CD's that have a colored surface or coloring and design on the surface or any CD's that are not round shaped. They show a heart shaped CD, can't say I've ever seen a heart shaped CD, but there ya go.
The unit comes with a removable theft deterrent faceplate as well as security code entry.
Now for those techno people, I guess there should be some stats:
FM tuner frequency range 200 kHz
AM tuner section frequency range 10 kHz
CD player laser diode GaAlAs
CD player frequency response 10 Hz 0 20 kHz
General operating voltage 11 - 16V
Installation size 182 x 53 x 155 mm (7 3/16 x 2 1/16 x 6 1/10)
Weight 2.64 lbs.
Comes with instruction and installation manual (multilingual) and trouble shooting guide.
For commercial free music you must subscribe to Sirius satellite system, a pretty nominal fee monthly. However, you are still able to get local stations without this service. Yet, a Sirius ready system deserves Sirius.
