Great, powerful unit at a great price!!!
Pros
Savvy shoppers can get it cheap, good power, great style!
Cons
Faceplate install way too complicated, questionable long term performance?
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
I love Kenwood, but this deck is not their best. If you can get it for cheap ($100 or less), you should pick it up!
When I got back from Iraq, I wanted to spend some of my hard earned dollars on a new system for my '97 firebird, so I decided to purchase a powered sub. Unfortunately, my old Kenwood deck couldn't support auxiliary components, so I had to get a new one. I knew I wanted to get another Kenwood, so I researched online and found that this was the best one in my price range.
Statistics:
Maximum power 50 Watts X 4
2 RCA Preouts/non-fading level control (for subs, amps)
cd/md changer control capability
SIRIUS satellite radio ready
multi-color display
remote included
flip-down detachable faceplate
What I Love:
-plenty of power to enhance even a stock system
-plays MP3's!!!
-SIRIUS ready
-I could change the display color to red to match my interior lights
-button layout easy to use
-turning knob-style volume control (much better than pushing a button a million times to increase the volume)
-detachable face
What I Hate:
-the faceplate is much harder to put in than it should be (I never use the flip-down feature as it is HARDLY a theft deterrent, so I would much rather just have a regular detachable face) - for people that rarely ride in my car, it takes them over a minute to figure out how to attach the faceplate, although I can do it in no time.
-when it gets really cold (which it rarely does in Arizona), the deck won't recognize the cd right away - not a big deal, but HEY, if you live in Alaska, it's good information!
-the trip piece that comes with the deck that surrounds the face does not secure very well (it has come off more than a few times while trying to take off the face)
