Repeat Kenwood head unit owner and could not be happier

Pros Cost, design, features, Radio
Cons Initial sound and settings can be confusing
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  This unit is worthy of being considered a high end unit, thought the price would state otherwise.
I purchased my Kenwood KDC-X459 through an internet auction web site after doing a lot of research and keeping up on stereo technology over the past years. It features an attractive, customizable display, plenty of add-on options, crisp sound, and a strong radio receiver.

The first thing that attracts someone to a head unit before they can listen is it's looks. In the land of colorful and animated displays, this unit delivers an interesting display that doesn't waste your time. There are four seperate displays to choose from to suit your preference along with contrast and dimmer options. Choose your favorite and set the contrast that looks best. Another favorite option of mine occurs when listening to a CD. The display changes when a new track starts from showing the clock (that's what I always have the display set to)to showing the track number that's currently playing.

This unit has tons of features. In addition to the impressive display, this unit offers security devices, plenty of add-on space, and fine tuning of the sound. Along with the detachable face, this unit comes with a red flashing LED showing the crook that the face is safely stored outside the car, and a security code that needs to be inputted every time the power is cut off to the unit.

Another reason why I purchased this unit is because I have a powerized Bazooka base tube, and a Kicker amp powering the remain speakers. This unit offers the typical two outputs for the 4-channel amp, but also comes with a third set of outputs especially for the base tube.

Fine tuning the sound completes the enjoyment of this head unit. No matter what type of music you listen to, this unit will deliver it the way it was meant to be heard. Setting the sound up to your liking may take some time as there are many tuning options to choose from.

The last items I want to mention on this unit is the receiver and attune feature. The radio picks up many of the weaker signals so you can listen to them without being to annoyed by the "fuzz" My last and possibly favorite feature is the attune button. This features cuts the sound down to a whisper so you can still hear it, but am not distracted during phone calls or that drive through run. Once your done conducting business, press the attune button again and it gently brings the sound up to the previous level.

The only thing that somewhat bothers me about this unit is the initial set up of the settings. If the power is cut off for what ever reason, it's hard to remember how to input the security code and navigate through the menus. Just be sure to keep your owners manual handy.
