The Kenwood eXcelon KDC-X459 is Excellence for your Vehicle!

Pros Great Looking with Great Sound and Plenty of Add-ons available!
Cons The Cost of the whole system if you add the add-ons!
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  This is one of the best and great looking AM/FM CD players out there!
The Kenwood eXcelon KDC-X459 is an AM/FM and single CD receiver. With the optional input adapter you can add a Kenwood CD changer, a Weather Band Tuner, a portable MP3, MiniDisc or Cassette player. Also available is a Sirius Satellite Radio tuner to be added on.

Sirius Satellite Radio
Sirius Satellite Radio is 100% commercial free digital music from three satellites in a high-angle elliptical orbit above the US. They have a network of ground antennas and repeaters to boost the signals for digital sound clarity from coast to coast.

Right now they have 60 channels of commercial-free music with 40 channels of news, sports and entertainment.

You must subscribe to get the use of Sirius Satellite Radio, I have no idea on the cost because I don not use their service.

Weather Band
The KDC-X459 can use the optional Kenwood KTC-WB 100 Weather Band Tuner. Not only can you tune in a weather band but you can also get information on activates like sporting events.

There are 480 Weather Band Stations in the US.

The Kenwood eXcelon KDC-X459
This beauty connects to 4 speakers with 22 watts RMS and 50 watts peak power for each speaker.

You can preset in 18 FM stations and 6 AM stations and then name the stations. This unit uses Kenwood?s CR-2 for the best radio reception.

The Display
The KDC-X459 has a multicolor display and the face can be detached or folded down.

You can display contrast and adjust it from 1 to 10 for you personal preference.

The unit has an illuminated lead wire, if it is connected to your headlight circuit, it will dim the display when the headlights are on to your preset level.

Names
SNPS (Station Name Presets) is a feature that lets you name up to 32 FM stations and 16 AM stations with up to 8 characters.

DNPS (Disc Name Preset) is used in the same way as naming your stations but in this case you can name up to 10 discs for the player to display your named CDs. If you add on a CD Changer it can name the CDs in the changer, how many depend on what Kenwood Changer you add.

Security
A security program of a 4-digit code that you pick is built into the KDC-X459. You will never have to enter the code unless the unit is disconnected from the power source.

A red light will blink if the faceplate is removed to warn off a thief, this can be turned off if you wish.

System Q EX
This is for customizing your own presets from the graphic equalizer or choose from the 6 presets of Rock, Pop, Easy, Top 40, Jazz and Flat.

The Remote
The Kenwood RC-410 Wireless Remote is used for naming your stations and CDs. You can also use it to control the system while away from your vehicle.

It is a basic remote that is easy to use with the numbers 1 thru 0, a volume control, track tuning controls and a few other buttons.

The remote works with most Kenwood CD Changers and this is where the remote comes in handy.

Cost
The Kenwood KDC-X459 retails for around $300 and can be found on the Internet for around $179. Additional cost of a wiring harness to match your vehicle and a face plate to match can cost you an additional $20 to $50 depending on what you need.

Now for those who like the challenge of self-installation, then shopping on the Internet for the lowest price is the way to go. This unit was bought locally for $229 and had Free Installation, if installation is not included you can figure around an extra $50 for someone to install it. So if you want someone to install it then shopping locally with Free Installation maybe the best bet.

Other additional costs are for add-ons like a CD Changer or the Sirius Satellite Radio tuner.

Overall
This is a very good AM/FM CD player that is very attractive with a lot of nice features.

The AM/FM reception is good, I couldn?t tell if it was any better than my factory installed radio, it is good also. I live about 45 miles from the radio stations that I like to listen to and all of them come in crystal clear.

The CD player produces an excellent quality sound even with the music downloaded from the Internet. If you leave a CD in, it will remember where it was the last time and resume from there.

Total sound hooked up through four 100-watt speakers and a 200-watt subwoofer produces a sound that is unbelievable. There is a slight distortion when it is at almost full volume but, believe me full volume is way too loud for my pleasures.

I love the look of the display and all of the features that are available with the Kenwood eXcelon KDC-X459.

This is truly a High Class AM/FM CD player that is easy to use!
