sounds good, controls a little difficult
Pros
Great sound and power from a low-priced MP3 CD player
Cons
Very difficult to adjust settings while driving.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
I would buy it again if I got the same deal. It may be worthwhile to spend a little more to get one that is easier to use.
This is a solid unit that delivers good sound. I bought it for $150 and had it installed professionally. That is cheap for an MP3 CD player. Overall I am happy and it is definitely worth the money but I do need to complain a bit about the controls.
The AM/FM button is used to navigate the folder structure when playing MP3 files burned on the CD. This is not very intuitive, because those buttons are only labeled as AM/FM. The EQ control is decent but if you want to use the separate bass, mid, and trebel controls it will be tough while driving. This is because you have to hold the EQ button for 2 seconds until the menu appears...then use AM/FM buttons (again) to select between bass, mid, trebel, fader, and balance. When you find the setting you want to change you then use the "next track/previous track" buttons to actually make the adjustments. None of this is very user friendly in my opinion.
The unit comes with a remote control which sounds kind of funny to me but in reality I think it makes using the unit a bit easier. This is because you can use the buttons by feel while keeping your eyes on the road. Using the faceplate buttons by feel would be impossible.
I like Kenwood so I would still give this unit a thumbs up despite the difficulty in some operations.
